Arctic Monkeys Tour

Arctic Monkeys Gig Dates

Later this year, Arctic Monkeys will play nine dates on the tour including a homecoming gig at Sheffield's Motorpoint Arena. Starting in Newcastle at the Metro Radio Arena on October 22, the tour will then visit Manchester, London, Liverpool, Cardiff, Birmingham and Glasgow before ending with the Sheffield gig on November 2. The Strypes will support on all dates.

Arctic Monkeys Album Review 2013

Alex Turner on new Arctic Monkeys album...

I've been looking at articles online and trying to find reviews to put into my blog. Here's a review I found from the NME website:

Arctic Monkeys front-man Alex Turner has spoken about the rap and hip-hop influence on the band's new album 'AM'. 

The band's fifth studio album will be released on September 9 and features the singles 'R U Mine?' and 'Do I Wanna Know?'. Guests on the album include Queens Of The Stone Age front-man Josh Homme and former member of The Coral, Bill Ryder-Jones.

Speaking in an exclusive interview in this week's NME, which is on newsstands tomorrow (August 1) or available digitally, Turner, when asked to describe what the new album sounds like, replied: "It sounds like a Dr Dre beat, but we've given it an Ike Turner bowl-cut and sent it galloping across the desert on a Stratocaster." 

When asked how the band have managed to fuse hip-hop and rock successfully, Turner said his vision for the new album was to make it "sound less like four lads playing in a room this time". He added: "Essentially, that's what it is, but if you can find a way to manipulate the instruments or the sounds to the point where it sounds a bit like a hip-hop beat that'd be boss in your car, then I think there's something quite cool about that."

The Arctic Monkeys signed to the independent label Domino Records after a bidding war in 2005. Their first album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not was released in early 2006, and soon became the fastest-selling debut album in British music history. The band has since released three more albums being Favourite Worst Nightmare (2007), Humbug (2009) and Suck It and See (2011) all reaching No.1 in the UK album charts.

Alex Turner's (lead singer) initial songwriting with Arctic Monkeys was based around specific concepts, particularly on their first album Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which is considered to be a concept album centered around nightlife in the UK. He later progressed to more varied themes, especially noticeable on Humbug and Suck It and See where he really changed their usually genre. Their lyrics matured as they did, although their lyrics were always well-written. 

They've won numerous awards and currently have a very wide fan-base, bigger than ever.

I've made a mood-board of the covers of the singles and albums by the arctic monkeys since they've been famous.

These are the first four album covers by the Arctic Monkeys. I like their exisiting album covers because they're simple and the first 3 albums that they did 'Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not', 'Favourite Worst Nightmare' and 'Humbug' all relate to the band or a song on the album.

Summer Project

During the summer, I'm to follow an event and record it using social networking sites by blogging and etc. I've decided to follow the band The Arctic Monkeys for this project. I'm using this website for when I'm making mood-boards, writing about my work, writing reviews and analyzing/ evaluating. I'm going to link updates to the blog I've made, which I created with Tumblr, to present and show the process of my work. I'll be creating a range of things, such as posters, album covers and etc to 'promote the band' and I'll regularly link them onto my Blogger.

I'm going to start with making mood-boards on album covers that already exist and look at the artists behind them, and other album covers of different bands, to try and find some inspiration for my own work.
